Ahmedabad/UNI: App-based cab service Uber on Friday said that it would expand its services to two more cities in Gujarat including Rajkot, the largest city of Saurashtra region in the western state.

Addressing a press conference here Krishna Veer Singh, Head of West India Ridesharing, Uber, said that the company which currently offered its cab/auto services in a total of six cities/towns of Gujarat, would add two more cities Rajkot and Vapi by the end of December this year.

Currently the company, which has its services across 770 locations in 65 countries, is present in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Mahesana, Anand and Nadiad of Gujarat. It had started its service from Ahmedabad in Gujarat four years back and expanded it to Surat and Vadodara in January this year and the latest addition were Mahesana, Anand and Nadiad where only the UberAuto service has been started since November 4.

Singh said that it has not yet decided whether the company would begin with all of its services in Rajkot and Vapi or only with Auto service as done in the three towns recently. But in any case the service at these two locations would start before the end of 2019.

He said that apart from these intra-city services, the company also operates inter-city cab service in Gujarat that covers over 20 destinations in the state with the most popular route being Ahmedabad-Vadodara.

To a query he said that Ahmedabad was the third largest center of Uber in Western India after Mumbai and Pune with over 10 lakh trips a month. It was also the 10th largest market for the company in India with over 10000 driver-partners. Uber Auto trips have also seen a phenomenal growth of over 2.5 times this year in the city.
