Swedish furniture giant IKEA to cut 7500 jobs
Stockholm, Nov 21 (IBNS): Swedish furniture giant IKEA Group has said it is planning to cut 7,500 office jobs worldwide.
Jesper Brodin, Ikea’s chief executive, told The Guardian: “We continue to grow and perform strongly. At the same time, we recognise that the retail landscape is transforming at a scale and pace we’ve never seen before. As customer behaviours change rapidly, we are investing and developing our business to meet their needs in better and new ways.”
As well as cutting jobs, Ikea said it would create 11,500 new jobs as it develops city centre formats and focuses on its online shop, to make it more convenient and affordable for shoppers, reported The Guardian.
The job cut will include 350 in the UK.
“We are in fast-changing retail environment and while we continue to grow, we are evaluating how we can remain relevant in the eyes of consumers – now and in the future,” said Javier Quiñones, retail manager for Ikea in the UK and Ireland, told the newspaper.
