18th International FoodTech India 2019 in Kolkata gets underway

Kolkata/IBNS: "Food Tech India 2019: Bakery Tech & Hotel Tech”International Exhibition was inaugurated  at the Science City Exhibition Complex in Kolkata on Friday with the participation of morethan 150 companies and top brands from India and abroad representing the food processing and packaging, confectionery, bakery, dairy, hoteland allied services sectors.

The Mega Exhibition would be on till Nov 17.

“This year, Food Tech India 2019 is for the first time organizing aDairy & Ice-Cream Expo at the Exhibition which will run concurrentlyduring the main Exhibition. This will greatly benefit nearly 4000small ice-cream manufacturers of West Bengal, especially in the ruralareas, and provide them with the latest affordable technology,ingredients, flavourings and packaging for manufacturing ice-creams.Many small ice-cream manufacturers would be visiting the Exhibition,”
said Zakir Hossain, Regional Head of N K Kapur & Company and the Chief Convener of the International Exhibition.

“The Food Tech India 2019 Exhibition, which is in its 18th year, has been growing at a rate of 10 to 12% per annum in Kolkata, generating
B2B growth in volumes, revenues and footfalls against the national growth average of 6 to 7% per year,” he said.

This year more than 150 global brands and Indian companies areparticipating in the Food Tech India 2019 Exhibition showcasing their
latest products and technologyThe 18th Food Tech India 2019 isbullish on growth through joint ventures, collaborations, industriallicences and 100% export-oriented-units (EoUs). Many foreign companiesare scouting for business opportunities in the food and hospitalitysector in India.

The Mega Exhibition will showcase under one roof the latest productsand services cutting across hotel, confectionery, equipment, catering
equipment, tableware, food packaging technology, food flavours andadditives, industrial refrigeration, hotel and food chain consumables
and Bengali Sweet & Snacks. Various seminars and discussions on Bakery& Confectionery Industry, Culinary Industry, Sweets and Snacks
Industry are conducted during the three-day Exhibition.

Food and grocery account for around 31% of India’s consumption basket.The Food Processing Industry accounts for almost 32% of the total food
market in India. The Indian food and grocery market is the world’ssixth largest, with retail contributing 70% of the sales. Consumer spending in India is expected to grow to $3.6 trillion by 2020.India's food and hospitality sector together are growing at a rate of17% per annum with Kolkata as a hub in the eastern region.
