Uttar Pradesh: Criminal arrested in police encounter

Firozabad/UNI: A criminal wanted in the murder of a woman was injured and arrested in an encounter with the police in Uttar area of Firozabad district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Tuesday.

Police sources said that during routine checking late on Monday night the police spotted a youth moving in a suspicious manner.

"When the police signalled him to stop, he attempted to escape. When chased the youth opened fire on the police party," they said.

Police sources said that in retaliatory firing the youth sustained a bullet injury in leg.

"The youth was taken to the district hospital. When quizzed the injured accused was identified as Akash. On May 20 Akash shot a woman Sudha in Tilak Nagar locality in broad daylight," they said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ashish Tiwari said that action under Gangster Act will be taken against the murder accused.
