Jammu and Kashmir: Tourist guide arrested selling 'fake' tickets of Gondola

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a tourist guide for allegedly selling tickets for fake Gondola cable car at Gulmarg in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police Station Gulmarg received a written complaint from Manager Gulmarg Gondola Project wherein he stated that a ticket checker today caught two tourists with a fake gondola ticket.

“ On enquiry, the tourists stated that some tourist guide had sold them these tickets at a cost of Rs. 2500 per ticket. To this effect case FIR was registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Gulmarg and investigation set in motion,” a police statement said.

“During course of investigation the statement of the tourist was recorded and after strenuous efforts, a tourist guide Aashiq Hussain Magray of Shrai Tangmarg was taken into custody and investigation was set into motion.

“During investigation, it was revealed by the fraudsters that their modus operandi is to pre-book gondola tickets and then sell them to gullible tourists at exorbitant rates,” he said.

The Gondola service at the tourist resort of Gulmarg is hugely popular among the tourists. Gondola, covers an aerial distance of five kms and every day hundreds of visitors ride the lift which travels up above the conifers trees dotting its way upto the Affarwat height, at an altitude of 13,400 ft.
