You fit right here, Obama tells American Muslims

Washington, Feb 4 (IBNS) President Obama, who for the first time visited a mosque in the US on Wednesday, urged people to call off bias against Muslims after US Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump in December during his campaign had called for barring Muslims from entering America, according to reports.

Speaking to a large gathering at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, POTUS was quoted as saying by CNN, "Let me say as clearly as I can as president of the United States: you fit right here."

Calling them a part of America, he said, "You're right where you belong. You're part of America too. You're not Muslim or American. You're Muslim and American."

He said that while America must unite to fight terrorism, such stance against Muslims will reiterate behavior similar to the terrorists.

"Together, we've got to show that America truly protects all faiths. As we protect our country from terrorism, we should not reinforce the ideas and the rhetoric of the terrorists themselves," Obama said.

He also lauded the Muslim leaders for 'consistently condemning terrorism' and said that their ideas should be 'amplified' more across the globe.

"Here at this mosque, and across our country and around the world, Muslim leaders are roundly and repeatedly and consistently condemning terrorism. And around the globe, Muslims who've dared to speak out have often been targeted and even killed So those voices are there; we just have to amplify them more."

He also demanded a more positive outlook towards the Muslims from the entertainment industry and said, "Our television shows should have some Muslim characters that are unrelated to national security. It's not that hard to do."

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump kicked up a controversy when he called for barring all Muslims from entering the United States.

Trump  had called for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until "our country's representatives can figure out what is going on."
