US: Vivek Murthy dismissed as Surgeon General

Washington, Apr 22 (IBNS): The White House administration has dismissed an Indian-American who was appointed as the Surgeon General.

Vivek Murthy was appointed to the post during the Obama regime.

"Today, Dr. Murthy, the leader of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, was asked to resign from his duties as Surgeon General after assisting in a smooth transition into the new Trump Administration," the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement as available with the media.

He has been replaced by Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams.

Vivek Murthy tweeted : "Thank you America for the privilege of a lifetime. I have been humbled and honored to serve as your #SurgeonGeneral."

He was confirmed as the US Surgeon General in December 2014‏.
