Washington: US President Donald Trump was found sexually abusing a magazine columnist in a New York department store in the 1990s by a jury while hearing a civil case, media reports said.

But Trump was found not liable for raping E Jean Carroll in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman, reports BBC.

The jury also found Trump liable for defamation for calling the writer's accusations "a Hoax and a lie", the British media reported.

It is for the first time that the former US President has been found legally responsible for a sexual assault.

The Manhattan jury ordered Trump to pay her about $5m (£4m) in damages, reports BBC.
