Turkey halves tariffs on US imports reciprocally

| @indiablooms | May 22, 2019, at 04:20 pm

Ankara, May 22 (Xinhua/UNI) Turkey decided to halve the additional duties on US imports in a reciprocal move, the trade minister said Wednesday.

Duties levied on 22 products originating in the US will be reduced from 521.2 million US dollars to 260.6 million US dollars, Ruhsar Pekcan said on Twitter.

According to the decree published in the official gazette, the list of US products includes rice, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, cosmetic products, and some motor vehicles.

The decision came after Washington's announcement to decrease tariffs on Turkish iron and steel imports to 25 percent from 50 percent last week.

The United States had doubled tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminum imports last August amid a diplomatic row between the NATO allies.
