Trump launches anti-fraud blitz, claims billions lost; JD Vance takes charge

US President Donald Trump has handed Vice President JD Vance a powerful new role of leading a nationwide crackdown on alleged fraud.

Calling it “massive and pervasive,” Trump said the effort could shape the country’s financial future.

Why it matters

The administration claims billions in taxpayer money meant for social welfare programs may be misused.

Trump argues that if the fraud is eliminated, it could significantly improve the US budget — even hinting at balancing it.

Focus on democratic states

While the probe will span the country, Trump made it clear where the spotlight will fall.

He singled out Democratic-led states including California, Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, and New York, accusing local leaders of allowing a “free-for-all” with public funds.

Raids already underway

Trump claimed enforcement actions have already begun.

He pointed to ongoing “raids” in Los Angeles as an early sign of the crackdown in motion.

What’s next

The move follows an executive order signed last month creating a national task force led by Vance.

The group is expected to investigate how federal funds are being used across states — a move likely to spark political clashes in the weeks ahead.
