Taliban embraces Afghan forces in Eid ceasefire

Kabul, Jun 16 (IBNS): In a historic development, the Taliban forces have embraced Afghanistan security forces during a ceasefire which was called for festival Eid al-Fitr, media reports said.

A three-day ceasefire was called to mark the Eid.

The Afghanistan government has also released some Talibans from jail.

President Ashraf Ghani has called for a longer peace.

Ghani reportedly said the Talibans now can receive government assistance like normal citizen.

Eid is a Muslim festival which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Muslims fast during Ramadan.
