A Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) officer has been abducted by unidentified armed men in Balochistan, according to media reports.

Rakhshan Division Commissioner Asad Ullah Kakar was travelling with his driver when armed assailants intercepted their vehicle, officials told Dawn.

The incident occurred in the same region where Kharan Deputy Commissioner Munir Ahmed Soomro was abducted last month.

According to Kharan police, Kakar was travelling from Quetta to Kharan in a private car when the assailants blocked the Noshki-Kharan highway in the Barshonki area and intercepted his vehicle, Dawn News reported.

The kidnappers initially took away the commissioner, his driver and their vehicle. However, they later released the driver, a senior police official told the newspaper.

The driver subsequently informed the police about the commissioner’s abduction.
