Payal Tadvi death: Three doctors arrested
Mumbai, May 29 (IBNS): At a time when the city witnessed protests over the alleged suicide of second-year medical student Dr Payal Tadvi, the Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested all the three doctors accused of abetting the suicide, media reports said.
The three doctors had earlier denied allegations that they had subjected her to harassment, media reports said.
According to reports, Payal Salman Tadvi, a resident doctor who was pursuing gynaecology, committed suicide inside her room on May 22 at BYL Nair Hospital in Mumbai.
The three accused doctors, in a letter to a resident doctors' association, said that they were only performing their basic duties and if heavy workload was ragging then they had been ragged themselves and ragging other people as well.
According to reports, Tadvi's mother Abeda Tadvi alleged that her daughter, before committing suicide, told her over the phone that the three seniors constantly harassed her with casteist abuses.
The three accused doctors have demanded a fair investigation in the case.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in connection with the case and the three accused-Hema Ahuja, Bhakti Mehar and Ankita Khandilwal- are facing stringent charges.
The Association have also cancelled their memberships to ensure a fair investigation.
Meanwhile, Tadvi's mother, who is a cancer patient, said they had complained to the management but no action was taken against the accused.
She alleged the management had previously assured them to look into the matter, but refused to provide anything in writing.
