Islamabad: Pakistan's Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Tuesday issued show-cause notices to 15 pharmaceutical companies for failing to manufacture the most commonly prescribed medicine for Covid patients, Paracetamol, amid rising cases in the country, media reports said.

The medicine has reportedly disappeared from many  pharmacies.

According to reports, the medicine is also being sold in black markets.

Speaking about the shortage of Paracetamol in the market, a Drap official requesting anonymity said demand for the painkiller had increased due to the rising number of dengue cases.

Pakistan registered 6,047 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Wednesday.

During the same period, 29 people died due to the viral infection.

The NCOC said that the country's number of confirmed cases has increased to 1,436,413 while 1,304,980 out of them have recovered.

The active cases dropped to 1,02,103 after 9,590 patients recovered on Tuesday.

There are 1,559 patients in critical condition and being treated at intensive care units in different hospitals of the country, news agency Xinhua reported.

According to reports, 29 people died due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, increasing the overall death toll to 29,330.

Pakistan's southern Sindh province is the most-affected region of the country in terms of the number of cases with 544,722 infections.
