Pakistan: Locals protest excessive power outage in Lakki

Political party members and civil society organisations on Monday (November 13, 2023)  blocked the Bannu-Mianwali Road in Pakistan's Lakki city to protest prolonged and unscheduled electricity load-shedding in urban and rural areas of the district.

The protesters gathered at Qazi Ishfaq Chowk and closed the busy road for three hours, causing long queues of vehicles, reported Dawn News.

People said long power cuts forced people to face water crisis in the region.

They warned people won’t pay their bills if ‘unfair’ load-shedding was not halted, reported Dawn News.

“The government has launched a campaign to curb power theft and improve recoveries, but Peshawar Electric Supply Company is carrying out excessive outages in urban and rural areas,” a speaker told the newspaper.

They set a week’s deadline for Pesco to stop electricity loadshedding or they would expand their agitation.

The demonstrators ended the road blockade after negotiations with additional assistant commissioner Sultan Nooruddin Ahmer.
