Uthmanzai tribal jirga (a tribal council responsible for settling disputes in Afghanistan and Pakistan) recently boycotted the ongoing polio drive in North Waziristan district till the improvement of the law and order situation in the Pakistani region.

The jirga also demanded equitable distribution of natural resources and release of missing persons.

The jirga also declared that the residents allowing vaccination of their children would be fined Rs500,000, reported Dawn News.

Apart from boycotting the polio campaign, a 30-member core committee of Uthmanzai jirga also decided to close Miramshah-Bannu Road for vehicular traffic, jirga spokesman Mufti Baitullah told the newspaper.

He said that the core committee had presented a draft of their demands to the authorities, which included maintaining law and order, equitable distribution of natural resources, and release of missing persons.
