Pakistan celebrates I-Day

Islamabad, Aug 14 (IBNS): Amid joy and celebrations across the nation, Pakistan on Sunday celebrated its 70th Independence Day.

Marking the day, major public and private buildings  been decorated with illuminations, national flags, posters and banners.

Special prayers in mosques were held early in the morning.

President Mamnoon Hussain addressed the nation while main event of the day was held at  Convention Center here.

Tight security arrangements have been made across the nation for Independence Day celebrations.

Former Pakistan captain-turned-politician Imran Khan tweeted: "Today on 14 August I am praying that before our 70th birthday, we conquer corruption and terrorism to pave the way for Naya Pakistan."

Maryam Nawaz Sharif posted: d account"PAKISTAN ZINDABAD !"


Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik tweeted: "Jashn-e-Azadi Mubarak doston. May Allah give us the strength to work for a brighter, safer, healthier & literate future #PakistanZindabad ."


Former Pakistan bowler Shoaib Akhtar said: "Independence day is not a mere celebration but a responsibility on each one of us to stand for what is right n contest what is wrong."

Ex-Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi tweeted: "Happy independence day 2 all and thanks to my friends worldwide for making @SAFoundationN event an astounding success."

1992 World Cup winning bowler and former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram posted: "Independence Day is about the people of Pakistan.It gives us hope,it unites us and it reminds us to believe in our country #PakistanZindabad."
