Pakistan: Bara tribesmen demand end to police raids

| @indiablooms | Oct 27, 2022, at 12:16 am

Khyber:  Elders and social activists of Shalobar tribe of Bara tehsil have condemned 'unwarranted' police raids on their houses and even demanded a halt of similar actions.

Addressing a press conference at the Bara Press Club on Monday, chairman Shalobar Qaumi Sareshtha Abdul Ghani, president Bazar Gul and members Zawra Din, Chiragh Afridi, Hamid Mama and Javed Afridi accused Peshawar police of conducting unwarranted raids on houses in their area during night, reports Dawn News.

They said such raids were not only ‘unlawful’ but were also a ‘violation’ of tribal culture and traditions, which they could not tolerate.

They said that the Peshawar police were also not accompanied by policewomen when they entered the female sections of some houses, thus violating the sanctity of their private lives.

They also demanded a departmental enquiry against the police officials involved in the matter.
