Pak politicians slam Punjab minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan for commenting against Hindus

Islamabad, Mar 5 (IBNS): Pakistan's ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) criticised Punjab information and culture minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan for his remarks against the Hindu community.

The minister was quoted as saying by the media that he called Hindus as “cow urine-drinking people”.

The entire video, in which he made the comments against the Hindus, went viral on social media.

He made the comment at a time when relationship between India and Pakistan has touched a new low following the Pulwama attack, which had left over 40 Indian paramilitary personnel martyred, in Kashmir last month.

PTI leaders criticise:

Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari tweeted: "Absolutely condemn this. No one has the right to attack anyone else's religion. Our Hindu citizens have given sacrifices for their country. Our PM's msg is always of tolerance & respect & we cannot condone any form of bigotry or spread of religious hatred."

Both Mazari and Chohan are part of the ruling PTI.

Demanding 'strict action', Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Naeemul Haque, said: "The derogatory and insulting remarks against the Hindu community by Fayyaz Chohan the Punjab Info Minister demand strict action. PTI govt will not tolerate this nonsense from a senior member of the govt or from anyone. Action will be taken after consulting the Chief Minister."

Finance Minister Asad Umar  tweeted: "Hindus of Pakistan are as much a part of the fabric of the nation as I am. Remember the flag of Pakistan is not just green....its not complete without the white which represents the minorities. Quaide Azam's whole struggle was for a country free of discrimination."

Intellectuals slam:

Pakistani human rights activist Kapil Dev tweeted: "This is what we get in response to our love & patriotism for #Pakistan from @PTIPunjabPK Minister @Fayazchohanpti using derogatory words for #Hindus "cow's urine" peenay walo & "idol worshippers" without realizing that #4million Hindus live here. Even his party has Hindu MPs."

Journalist Mehr Tarar said: "Fayyaz Chohan, after offering an unconditional apology to the Hindus of Pakistan, and Hindus elsewhere, must be asked to resign, that is if Chief Minister Usman Buzdar doesn't fire him first.

"I expect and demand that as a Muslim Pakistani and a PTI supporter."
