Wellington/Xinhua/UNI:  Eleven new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand were confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to 39 on Friday.

All of the new cases were linked to overseas travel, said a statement of the Ministry of Health.

Around 1,000 tests were processed yesterday, and public health staff interviewed every case in detail so they could quickly trace their movements and identify all close contacts and isolate them, it said.

Of these 11 new cases, five are in Auckland, two in the Waikato region, two in the Wellington region and one each in Canterbury and Hawke's Bay, it added.

None of these 11 cases is in hospital. All are at home and self-isolating, according to the ministry.
