Nepal: 2 Indian pilgrims killed in road mishap

Kathmandu, June 11 (IBNS): At least two people were killed as a bus carrying Indian pilgrims was hit by a truck in Nepal’s Rautahat district, media reports said.

The mishap left 21 others injured, reports said.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred at Paurai forest area along the East-West Highway in Chandrapur Municipality-1 of Rautahat district on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Bijay Kumar Jena (52) and Charan Bishal (54), both from the Indian state of Odisha,  Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nabin Karki at Rautahat District Police Office was quoted as saying by The Himalayan Times.

According to police, the bus (Na 6 Kha 9030) had stopped at Mangalpur for the passengers to freshen up when it was rammed from behind by the truck (Ko 1 Kha 2625) en route from Janakpur to Kathmandu, killing two on the spot and injuring 21, reported the news paper.

As many as 60 passengers were travelling in the bus.

Some of the patients are undergoing treatment in Birjung-based Neuro Hospital.

The truck driver fled from the scene.
