nCov: 22 more die, 2381 fresh cases in Bangladesh

Dhaka/UNI:  The number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Bangladesh reached 49,534 on Monday with 2,381 new cases being detected in the last 24 hours.

Besides, 22 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the toll to 672, Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate said in the regular online health bulletin .

In the last 24 hours, 11,439 samples were examined and of them 2,381 got positive results for the virus. As many as 816 patients have recovered from the disease, raising the total to 10,597, she said.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 374,180 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 6,281,053 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 2,853,602 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
