Ottawa/IBNS: Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday to discuss recent developments in ongoing peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

In an official statement, Carney reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Ukraine throughout the negotiations.

He stressed the need to maintain pressure on Russia to engage in meaningful talks.

He also commended Zelenskyy’s efforts toward securing a just and lasting peace and acknowledged “the courage of the Ukrainian people as they face another winter of Russian aggression.”

The Prime Minister said Canada remains actively engaged through the Coalition of the Willing to support Ukraine’s security and recovery efforts.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close and regular contact as discussions continue.

Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet Carney in Halifax on Saturday during a stopover before the Ukrainian president travels to the United States.
