At least one person was injured after a knife-wielding man attacked him when he was stopped for questioning close to the US Embassy in Tokyo city in Japan, media reports said on Friday.

The incident happened just days before US President Donald Trump's planned visit to the country.

The injuries sustained by the officer, a member of the Metropolitan Police Department's riot squad, are not life-threatening, sources told Kyodo News agency.

The man was arrested at the scene of the mishap.

Trump is scheduled to visit the country from October 27 to October 29.

As per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, website,  President Trump will make a State Call on Emperor of Japan.

He will also meet the newly appointed Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi during his stay in the country.

"President Trump’s visit will be an ideal opportunity for the two countries to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance. The Government of Japan sincerely welcomes the visit of President Trump," the statement said.

According to reports, security has been beefed up across Tokyo for his visit.
