Dhaka, Aug 6 (IBNS): Bangladesh High Court on Monday granted bail to BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister of country Khaleda Zia for six months in an arson case filed under the Special Powers Act 1974 in Comilla in 2015.

After the hearing, Zia was granted bail by the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman.

Deputy Attorney General Dr Mohammad Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star that the government will move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC’s bail order.

As she is arrested in few other cases, Khaleda will not be released from jail following the High Cout order.

A court on Feb 8 sentenced Zia to five-year imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

She is currently in jail.
