Balochistan-based journalist and human rights activist Abid Mir has gone missing from Pakistan capital Islamabad.

According to his family, he disappeared after going to an ATM on Wednesday evening. Mir, who is known for his social media activism and his work on human rights in Balochistan, was last seen at the Baloch Aurat March, which took place on Wednesday, reports The Express Tribune.

Mir's brother Khalid Mir released a video on Twitter in which he stated that the family is in contact with the police to register a missing-persons FIR.

He tweeted: "My elder brother@AbidMir81 is not reachable since yesterday evening 6/6:30pm 8 March 2023."

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan earlier asked the police to investigate the issue.

"HRCP is concerned to learn that Baloch writer @AbidMir81 has been missing since yesterday, after leaving his home in Islamabad on an errand. His family say they are unable to reach him. We urge the @ICT_Police to investigate immediately and ensure that Mr Mir is recovered safely," the body tweeted.

The Islamabad Police later said the journalist has returned home.

However, his brother refused the claim.
