Indian national stabbed to death in Canada, suspect taken into custody

An Indian national has been stabbed to death in Canada's Rockland area near Ottawa, confirmed the embassy on Saturday.

The Embassy said the suspect has been taken into custody.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa, due to stabbing," the Indian Embassy in Canada posted on X.

"Police has stated a suspect has been taken into custody," the Embassy said.

"We are in close contact through a local community association to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved kin," the Embassy further said.

According to CBC News, the attack occurred close to  Lalonde Street just before 3 p.m. Friday.

Police have not yet said how the person died or what charges — if any — the person in custody faces, the news portal reported.

The scene where the incident took place is located roughly 40 kilometres east of downtown Ottawa.
