Horror in US: 3 dead, 14 injured after bar shooting in Austin's entertainment district
At least three people were killed and 14 others injured in a shooting at a bar in Austin, Texas, early Sunday, authorities said.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis told reporters that officers received a call about a “male shooting” at Buford’s, a popular beer garden in the city’s entertainment district, according to the Associated Press.
When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man armed with a gun. Police opened fire and killed the suspect, Davis said.
In a separate post on X, the Austin Police Department (APD) said: “Around 2 a.m. this morning, Sunday, March 1, 2026, Austin Police officers responded to an Active Attack in the 700 block of West 6th St. Three people are confirmed to be deceased, including the suspect, and 14 additional people were injured.”
The FBI’s San Antonio Division, which covers the Austin area, confirmed to CNN that it is assisting with the investigation but did not provide further details.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson praised first responders for their swift action.
“Our hearts go out to the victims of this tragedy,” Watson said at a news conference, as quoted by CNN. “I want to reiterate my thanks to our public safety officers and officials who were so rapidly on the scene. They definitely saved lives.”
