Asadabad/Xinhua: Afghan forces in crackdown against armed insurgents have killed three militants affiliated with the hardliner Lashkar-e-Tyeba group in the eastern Kunar province, provincial government spokesman Abdul Ghani Musamim said Saturday.

"The security forces launched operations against insurgents in Asmar district on Friday night and as a result three foreign nationals of the extremist group have been killed and two others injured," Musamim told Xinhua.

Without identifying the nationalities of the killed insurgents, the spokesman asserted that the crackdown on militants would continue in the area.

More than 20 extremist groups, according to Afghan security officials, are active in Afghanistan and Lashkar-e-Tyeba is one of the illegal armed groups associated with the Taliban that has been fighting against the Afghan government.
