Former American official accuses Imran Khan of using ‘US card’ to build his support base

Islamabad: A former American official has accused Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan of playing the 'US Card' to further his political ambitions at home ahead of the electoral showdown, Express Tribune reported on Tuesday.

Lisa Curtis, who served in both the Bush and Trump presidencies and is now a senior fellow at the Centre for a New American Security, said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is simply using the “US card” to build up his support base.

Curtis said that “It's highly unlikely that any US official would get involved in Pakistan's internal politics” accusing Imran Khan for needlessly dragging the United States into his country's internal politics to further his own political ends.

She further added that the Biden administration has been trying to work with Pakistan on various issues including the situation in Afghanistan and “there is absolutely no reason for the US to seek a regime change in Pakistan now or ever”.

Khan has been claiming that the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition parties in the National Assembly is part of a "foreign-funded plot" being hatched to oust his government.
