Emergency declared in Maldives

Male, Nov 4 (IBNS) Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on Wednesday declared a state of emergency, reports said.
The President has given sweeping powers to security forces to arrest suspects ahead of a major anti-government protest rally.
 
"(The) Maldives declares state of emergency for a period of 30 days starting 12 pm (0700 GMT)Wednesday," the presidential spokesman Muaz Ali tweeted.

The development came just  just days after Maldivian authorities arrested country’s vice president Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor on Saturday
