Donald Trump wishes new Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison

Washington, Aug 25 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump on Saturday wished newly appointed Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Trump said his nation and Australia are 'great friends'.

"Congratulations to new Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. There are no greater friends than the United States and Australia!," Trump tweeted.

Ending a leadership contest, Malcolm Turnbull  was forced out by party rivals, making way for Morrison to become the PM of the nation.

Turnbull had been under pressure from poor polling and what he described as an "insurgency" by conservative MPs, reported BBC.

Morrison won an internal ballot 45-40 against former Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.
