Donald Trump names Gen. James Mattis as defence secretary

Washington, Dec 2 (IBNS): US President-elect Donald Trump has named General James Mattis as the US Defence Secretary, media reports said.

Mattis is a former marine, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Dubbed as 'Mad Dog' by his colleagues, Trump hailed Mattis as the best.

"He's our best," the billionaire said during his speech in Ohio.

"We are going to appoint 'Mad Dog' Mattis as our secretary of defense," Trump said.

"They say he's the closest thing to General George Patton (World War Two commander) that we have," the President-elect added.

Mattis was a sharp critic of Obama's Middle East policy.
