Dhaka: The Dhaka Police have directed all its units across the country to remain alert after a bomb attack rocked the Bangladesh capital on Saturday.

The blast occurred outside the Science Laboratory Intersection in Dhaka.

“We have earlier issued some specific directives regarding security measures. We have again sent similar messages to all units to follow the directives properly and remain on alert,” Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (media) at the Police HQ, told The Daily Star newspaper.

Last night, an assistant sub-inspector and a constable, both members of the protection team of LGRD Minister Tazul Islam, were injured when a crude bomb exploded near Science Laboratory crossing, reported the newspaper.

US-based  SITE Intelligence Group said Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

"IS Claims Credit for Bomb Blast on Police in Bangladeshi Capital," SITE tweeted.

Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader had said the crude bomb attack on police in Dhaka should not be played down.

He said the blast could be a precursor to a bigger plot by terrorists.

“Police were undoubtedly the target of the attack. It is possible they’re implementing these smaller incidents as ‘test cases’ ahead of a bigger attack,” Quader was quoted as saying by bdnews24.
