Defence allocation shows Pak govt presented budget after Army's approval: Mirza
Glasgow: Human rights activist Amjad Ayub Mirza on Friday criticised the Pakistan government over the budget passed by it and said the decision to allocate Rs 1.3 Trillion for defence showed it was done after the approval by the country's Army.
"The fund for development is 650 billion and for the Army the budget allocated is Rs 1.3 Trillion. It proves the budget was approved by the Army. The Parliament is completely scared and powerless," he said.
The government on Friday proposed Rs1.29 trillion defence allocation for next fiscal year representing an 11.8 per cent increase over the original allocation for the outgoing year, Dawn News said.
Federal Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar, while presenting the budget in the National Assembly, was quoted as saying by the newspaper, “Defence and internal security have been given adequate attention in the budget”.
The country unveiled a Rs 7.13 trillion (Rs 7,13,700 crore) budget for the new fiscal on Friday.
Speaking on the Bhasa Dam construction, the Glasgow-based activist said the budget did not specify any amount for its construction.
"A general announcement for water projects was made. It will also include Bhasa Dam as well. Now, the entire construction and everything related to it will go to the hands of the Chinese. This is a dangerous situation," Mirza said.
He said the government has imposed taxes on things used by poor people and spared the rich section of the society.
