Colombia plane crash: Children rescued from Amazon jungle after 40 days

Bogota: Four children, who were missing after a plane crash 40 days ago, have been found in Colombia's Amazon jungle, media reports said.

They spend weeks in the jungle following the crash.

Colombia's president said the rescue of the siblings, aged 13, nine, four and one, was "a joy for the whole country", reports BBC.

The children's mother and two pilots died when the light aircraft, in which they were travelling, crashed on May 1.

Dozens of soldiers and local people were engaged in rescuing the children since then.

President Gustavo Petro said finding the group was a "magical day", adding: "They were alone, they themselves achieved an example of total survival which will remain in history.

"These children are today the children of peace and the children of Colombia," he was quoted as saying by BBC.
