China sends 29 warplanes to Taiwan's ADIZ

Taipei: China recently sent 29 warplanes to Taiwan's self-declared air defense identification zone (ADIZ), media reports said on Monday.

According to media reports, the incident occurred last Tuesday.

The Defense Ministry said the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force planes were a mix of fighter jets, early warning and control aircraft, electronic warfare aircraft, anti-submarine aircraft, electronic intelligence aircraft, and aerial refueling aircraft, reports CNN.

It was the highest number of Chinese jets which entered Taiwan's ADIZ since the start of the year.

Taiwan has been governed independently from mainland China since 1949. Beijing views the island as its province, while Taiwan, which is a territory with its own democratically-elected government, maintains that it is an autonomous country.
