Canada: PM Justin Trudeau gets award at Houston energy conference

Toronto, Mar 10 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the proud recipient of 'CERAWeek Global Energy and Environment Leadership Award for his commitment to sustainability', informed CERAWeek.

Trudeau discussed the future of energy in this year's five-day CERAWeek International Energy conference in Houston, U.S organized by international financial services firm IHS Markit and was attended by more than 3,500 delegates and 300 members of the media from 60 countries around the world.

CERAWeek conference chair Daniel Yergin in an interview with CBC News said the award highlighed Trudeau’s achievement in Canada and showing the world the way to approach energy and environment challenges the entire planet is confronted with.

Trudeau tweeted, "Nothing is more essential to the U.S. economy than access to a secure, reliable source of energy. Canada is that source" and added, “while developing our resources, we must look to the future. Our children and their children deserve no less.”

Another Trudeau’s tweet said, “Canada provides more than 40% of America’s imported crude and supplies the U.S. with more electricity and uranium than any other country.”

Clare Demerse, federal policy adviser for Clean Energy Canada said U.S. was stepping back and hoped Canada would be able to take up leadership role in the issues concerning global energy.

Jackie Forrest, director of research for the Calgary-based ARC Energy Research Institute, which examines trends in the energy business was present in the conference said Canada had a lot of transparency and was the place for any one interested in investing and tweeted, “market should read my write up this week -- US storage is not indicator of OPEC cuts.”
