CAB part of RSS' Hindu Rashtra design, violates human rights law: Imran Khan

Islamabad/IBNS: Intruding once again into India's internal matters, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday termed New Delhi's latest move to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees through Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, as a part of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s parent organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)'s design to turn India into a "Hindu Rashtra" or a Hindu country.

Khan, who has been slammed by India including its Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeatedly over Jammu and Kashmir, said the CAB is a violation of "human rights law" even as Pakistan is itself pilloried on global platforms for human rights violations from Balochistan and other troubled areas.

Daring to term the Modi government as "fascist", the Pakistan Prime Minister tweeted, "We strongly condemn Indian Lok Sabha citizenship legislation which violates all norms of int human rights law & bilateral agreements with Pak. It is part of the RSS "Hindu Rashtra" design of expansionism propagated by the fascist Modi Govt."

In an overwhelming majority, the BJP passed the bill in Lok Sabha where the saffron party already enjoys simple majority.

The bill was passed at the stroke of Monday midnight with 311 MPs voting in favour of the bill while 80 others opposed it.

The CAB, which has also drawn ire from several key opposition parties back in India, will grant citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees who came from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan on or before Dec 31, 2014 if passed by Rajya Sabha as well on Wednesday.

The CAB bill is the latest instance where Khan locked horns with New Delhi.

Earlier Khan-led Pakistan government had slammed India's move to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A to withdraw Jammu and Kashmir's special status though New Delhi maintained the issue is "internal".
