Bangladesh: Train derails in Gazipur, northern rail links to Dhaka snapped

Dhaka, June 21 (IBNS): A train derailed in Gazipur area of Bangladesh on Friday, suspending rail links between Dhaka city and the northern region, media reports said.

A carriage of the Dhaka-bound Rangpur Express train went off the tracks around 9:45am near the Salna Bazar, Joydebpur Railway Junction Master Md Shajahan told bdnews24.

The train derailment suspended communications with Dhaka, Tangail, Khulna and Rangpur, he told the news portal.

The driver controlled the speed of the train at the right time which prevented any loss of life in the mishap.

A salvage train is on the scene now, trying to clear the tracks, Subrata Das, chief of Railway Police Camp at Joydebpur Railway Junction, told bdnews24.
