Bangladesh Politics: BNP holds standing committee meeting

Dhaka/UNI: A virtual meeting of the standing committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was held today (Sunday).

The party’s acting chairman Tareque Rahman chaired the meeting of the standing committee, highest policy-making body of the major political party, at 5pm.

There is apprehension of inundation of most of the areas of the country. The flood has resulted in endless sufferings for the people, but the government remained indifferent, the meeting said.

The meeting observed that they have no knowledge of government initiative on rescue and relief activities under the circumstances.

The meeting decided to form a relief committee with the party standing committee member Iqbal Hasan Tuku as its convenor for standing beside the flood-hit people.

The meeting also called upon leaders and workers of the party and its front organizations for standing beside the affected people.

The meeting expressed its deep shock at the death of those died of Corona and prayed for the salvation of the departed souls of the deceased.

It also conveyed sympathies to those who have lost their family members due to the pandemic disease.

The meeting decided to visit the mazar of the party’s founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and pay tribute to him on Aug 1 after congregation of Eid-ul-Azha.

The meeting reviewed the Corona situation and held discussion on political and organizational matters.

Committee members— Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Babu Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Begum Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hasam Mahmud Tuku attended the meeting.
