Bangladesh: Hindu priest killed, IS claims responsibility

Dhaka, Feb 22 (IBNS): Militant group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the killing of a Hindu priest in Bangladesh's Panchagarh district, a US-based intelligence group said.

Hindu priest Jogeshwar Roy was killed by a group of attackers in Sri Sri Shantu Santo Gaurio monastery.

SITE Intelligence Group website said: "The Islamic State (IS) claimed the murder of Hindu priest Jogeshwar Roy, the principal of the Sri Sri Shantu Santo Gaurio monastery, in northern Bangladesh."

Police have started investigating into the matter.

Panchagarh Superintendent of Police Gias Uddin Ahmed was quoted as saying bdnews24.com: “We are investigating who is behind the incident and what their motive is.”

The attackers reportedly arrived at the spot on a bike before entering the  monastery and killing the priest.
