Afghanistan: Taliban bans women from participating in Eid gatherings in two provinces, Malala criticizes

Kabul: The Taliban forces of Afghanistan have banned women from participating in Eid gatherings in two provinces of the country.

Two similar notices showed local Taliban leaders in northern Baghlan district and the northeastern district of Takhar said “it is forbidden for women to go out in groups during the days of Eid ul-Fitr” on Friday, reported The Independent.

Interestingly, the directions were not applicable to other corners of the country.

The Taliban has imposed several restrictions on women ever since the group came to power in 2021 after the fall of the government.

Meanwhile, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai criticised the step and tweet: "As Muslims around the world gather for Eid, my heart goes out to women and girls in Afghanistan, as the Taliban have banned women in two provinces from participating in celebrations with their families and friends."
