Afghanistan remembers 'great friend' US Senator John McCain

Kabul, Aug 27 (IBNS): Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday condoled the death of US Senator John McCain and called him a 'great friend' of his nation.

"We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Senator John McCain who was a great friend of AFG. Senator McCain served his country honorably in uniform and his service in the Senate is truly exemplary. We will remember his dedication and support towards rebuilding AFG," Ghani tweeted.

Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah also remembered McCain and said: "We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family & friends of late Senator John McCain, a great friend & supporter of the Afghan nation & people, throughout the years. In respect & appreciation, we pay tribute to his legacy. He was also a personal friend of mine. Rest In Peace."

 

Republican Senator John McCain passed away on Saturday.

The Senator was 81. 

A statement from his office read: "Senator John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28pm on August 25, 2018. With the Senator when he passed were his wife Cindy and their family. At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years."
