Kabul, Feb 4 (IBNS): An operation conducted by the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province left a key Taliban local leader killed, media reports said.

The incident left seven other terrorists killed.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a statement said the Taliban leader Qari Janan was killed in Highway 601 in Balochan area located in the outskirts of the provincial capital, reported Khaama Press.

The statement further added that five militants also sustained injuries during the same operations, reported the Afghanistan-based news agency.

Eight hideouts were destroyed during the process.

Some improvised explosive devices which were planted by the militants in Balochan, Gul Agha, Asadullah and Kochian areas were discovered and defused, the statement by the Ministry of Interior added as reported by Khaama Press.

The Taliban did not comment on the issue so far.
