Afghanistan: Explosion rocks western Herat, 25 killed or hurt

Kabul, May 18 (IBNS): An explosion rocked Afghanistan's western Herat province on Saturday and left at least 25 civilians killed and injured, media reports said.

According to local government officials, the incident took place at around 8:30am local time in the main the market of Obe district, reported Khaama Press.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Jilani Farhad has confirmed to the Afghanistan-based news agency that the target of the explosion was the district administrative chief of Obe district who was crossing the area.

Farhad further told Khaama Press that the explosives were planted in a bicycle which went off as the vehicle of Obe district chief was crossing the area, leaving at least 3 civilians dead including a child. 

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
