Kandahar, Jun 18 (Xinhua/UNI) Afghan security forces have arrested 30 militants loyal to the Taliban group in the southern Kandahar province, provincial Governor Hayatullah Hayat said Tuesday.

"Personnel of law enforcing agencies have arrested 30 Taliban militants during week-long clearance operations in various parts of the province, concluded the other day," Hayat told reporters here.

The arrested militants were involved in series of subversive activities including attacks on military convoys, security checkpoints and targeting government officials in Kandahar and the neighboring Helmand, Wardak, Uruzgan, Zabul and Ghazni provinces, the official said.

Taliban militants fighting government forces in the area have not commented on the report.
