Shimron Hetmyer storms Eden Gardens! West Indies set 183 for Scotland to chase
Kolkata/IBNS: A lone assault from Shimron Hetmyer at Eden Gardens on Saturday afternoon powered West Indies to a competitive total of 182/5 in 20 overs, setting Scotland a challenging target in the second match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
After winning the toss, Scotland elected to bowl first and enjoyed early control with disciplined bowling. However, Hetmyer counterattacked in emphatic fashion, repeatedly clearing the boundary to wrest momentum back in West Indies’ favour.
The Guyanese left-hander raced to his half-century in just 22 balls, lifting West Indies to 123/2 in 13.3 overs after the innings had stalled at 58/2 in 9.2 overs following Brandon King’s dismissal for 35 off 30 balls.
Hetmyer struck six sixes and two fours, anchoring the innings before falling on the final ball of the 19th over.
He was caught near the boundary by Brandon McMullen while attempting another maximum off Safyaan Sharif. The southpaw finished with a brisk 64 off 36 deliveries.
Scotland clawed back in the closing overs, with Brad Currie picking up two crucial wickets — Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford — in the final five overs to restrict West Indies from pushing the total beyond the 190–200 range.
