Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has married his longtime partner, Georgina Rodríguez, in a private ceremony in Portugal, media reports said.
Ronaldo shared an image on his Instagram page showing two hands, believed to be his and Rodríguez’s, with wedding rings visible.
According to reports, the couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Cascais on August 11, with their five children in attendance.
The Instagram post quickly went viral, seemingly ending years of speculation surrounding the couple’s marriage.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez have been together for around 10 years. The couple first met at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez was working at the time, the BBC reported. Ronaldo was then playing for Real Madrid.
Speculation about the couple’s wedding recently led to a bizarre incident in Ronaldo’s native Madeira.
Thousands of fans gathered outside Funchal Cathedral after mistakenly believing that the football star was set to marry Rodríguez. The crowd reportedly turned an unsuspecting couple’s wedding into a chaotic and unexpected spectacle.
Hundreds of Ronaldo fans reportedly assembled outside the cathedral amid rumours that the football icon was getting married.
However, the wedding taking place at the cathedral had no connection to Ronaldo. The unexpected gathering reportedly left the bride, groom and their wedding party stunned.
The wedding venue had been booked by Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, a couple living in France who had returned to their homeland to get married.
The couple has no known connection to Ronaldo.
