The Calcutta Files’ poster unveiled, promises a tale of crime, corruption and justice

Set against the backdrop of contemporary Kolkata, the film revolves around Dr. Aarohi Sen, a young doctor who takes a stand against corruption and illegal activities within the public healthcare system. Her mysterious murder sets off an investigation led by Crime Branch officer Aditya Burman and his colleague Chayan Banerjee.

Actress Swagata Mukherjee said, "In the last few years, the protests that people have been showing in different ways, this film, the directorial team, the producers, have tried to put up a protest like that. We are all with them, and we're very happy."

As the investigation progresses, Aditya uncovers links between crime, political influence and a wider conspiracy, while Aarohi’s mother continues her fight for justice. The film follows the parallel struggles of an officer seeking the truth and a mother determined to seek justice for her daughter.

"When my director told me that he is working on a subject like this, I didn't say anything and told him I'm in. Because I felt that it is important to be connected with this subject.

"This character I'm playing, is different from my experience as an actress, it was difficult for me", actress Laboni Sarkar added.

The film features Ggourab Roy Chowdhury as Rittik, Rajatava Datta as Aditya Burman, Payel Das as Aarohi Sen, Chandan Sen as Police Officer Chayan Banerjee, Laboni Sarkar as Sarmistha, Sudip Mukherjee as a doctor, Swagata Mukherjee as Chief Minister Susmita, among others.

Director Souvik Dey said, "The story of 'The Calcutta Files' has mystery, emotion, struggle and protest at its core. But its real strength lies in the indomitable will of the people."

"The determination of an officer to uncover the truth and the protest of ordinary people together form the soul of this film," he added. 

The screenplay has been written by Souvik Dey, Arnab Bhoumik and Abhisekh Bhattacharyya, while Dev Sen and Pratik Kundu have composed the music.

At the poster launch event, the entire team of the film paid their condolences with candles, for the people who lost their lives, in the mayhem of Bengal.

"I believe cinema is not only a medium of entertainment, but also a powerful way to question society, make people think and inspire change," Dey said. 

"It was this belief that led us to embark on the journey of making 'The Calcutta Files'. I hope the film gives audiences not only an engaging story, but also the strength to renew their faith in truth, justice and humanity", Dey added further.

The poster launch marked the beginning of the film’s promotional campaign, offering audiences a first glimpse into its characters, visual setting and central themes.
